Camping

Below you’ll find the ins and outs, the ‘what’s’ and ‘how’s’ of FloydFest camping, towards making both the journey and the destination and enjoyable as possible. For general Camping Etiquette, Rules and Regulations, please visit our Venue Page.

an eXplanation of the basics

Camping at FloydFest is primitive, meaning no electricity, running water, perfectly level campsites, etc., Camping is allowed only in designated areas (basically, one large ‘camping field’ and the wooded perimeter of the festival site). Portable toilets, hand-washing stations and potable water are convenient to camping areas. Also, 8 warm-water shower stalls (with more in the works) are located on the hill en-route to the Global Village. No open fires are permitted. Camp stoves and above ground fire pits are fine.

so who can camp?

ffwoods_cox.jpg

Anyone with a 4-day, 3-day or 2-day ticket. There is no cost involved-camping on site is included with the ticket price.

Please do note, all general admission ticket holders park off-site at our Black Ridge parking lot and shuttle into the festival site. This does mean humping your gear from your car to the shuttle, and then again to your camping site. Although we do have tractor shuttles, hospitality golf carts, and smiling volunteers to assist you, please pack accordingly! Hint: Let the shuttle driver know your particular camping preferences, and he/she can help site you accordingly. Camping on the Eastern side of the campus offers close proximity to the main stage and Children’s Universe, and is the official location of “family camping.”

Please be respectful of those with young children and/or early bedtimes. We suggest that night-owls head to the western slopes (“not so quiet camping”), where we continue to clear and level new camping spaces. Of course, woods camping everywhere fills up first, so be cautioned that you may end up in “field camping” if you arrive late – bring tarps and sunscreen!

so, who parks where again?

ffparking_cox.jpgParking on the festival site is limited to RV, VIP, X-Spot, Motorcycle and ADA Parking Ticket holders. Motorcycle parking is available adjacent to the main gate, and vehicles with handicapped plates or placard will be escorted to parking near the main stage.

General Admission ticket holder parking is conveniently located at the Black Ridge parking area , a five minute shuttle ride from the FloydFest main gate. The directions on our directions page  will take you directly to the Black Ridget parking lot. 100% of the parking monies are given to local charities; the parking fee $10/car/weekend. No parking is allowed along the shoulder of the Blue Ridge Parkway, as this is designated Federal land.

what’s the deal with camping off-site?

Lots of FloydFest patrons park and camp off site. ALL general guidelines, rules and regulations also apply in these locations. For more information on OFF-SITE Park and Camp options, check out our Off-Site ticketing page.

are you just not a camper?

general camping protocol

fftp_ty.jpg

We all know how camping has changed over the past decade or so. Tents have gone from ‘pup’ to ‘palatial’ and urban sprawl is an imminent threat to the woodsy scene. That said, please be a considerate camper. Keep your campsite compact- groups camping together should have a tarp for group shelter and cooking and small tents for sleeping. We do not allow the saving of tent sites.. no roping off for friends coming on Saturday. Everything packed in should be packed out, including *all trash* and the folding chair that bites the dust, or the ping pong table on its last leg- consider bringing a wagon to help with the effort. Please note that our camping areas are designated ‘quiet,’ ‘not so quiet,’ etc., and position yourself accordingly so as not to be a nuisance to your neighbor.

Because of the high number of tent campers and the fact that, well, real estate is at a premium we’d like to ask that each tent space take up no more than a 12′x12′ area. Although the further reaches of our available camping areas afford you a bit more room to sprawl, please don’t be surprised if we approach you and ask you to ‘consolidate’ if your tent space is taking up more than a 12×12 space in premium locations. Let’s work together to ensure that everyone has some space!

For those of you that like the backpacker eXperience and wish to enjoy spectacular views in a quiet setting, then the eXtreme camping eXperience is just for you. Located at the far back end of the Festival grounds and just off of the Moon Stomper Trail you can trek the cleared path to the eXtreme camping area. This is about as close to camping on the Appalachian Trail as you can get. In fact, did you know that the original Appalachian Trail came right through the Festival site? Now you can eXperience what it used to be like back in the day!!!

Grab an official FloydFest ENO hammock while you’re here and tie one on…to a tree of course! and enjoy sleeping in the woods like never before.
